About

Ricardo Magalhães is a Portuguese-born photographer based in Montreal, Canada. He is a self-taught photographer who has been photographing for over 15 years, while juggling his day job as a software engineer.

And that’s about it for talking in the third person for me. Never again.

Make no mistake, I am no professional photographer; I’m one of those eternal amateur photographers who, despite feeling completely naked without a camera on my body, only recently started becoming more vocal about my own work. Having lived in multiple countries and cities throughout my life, I’ve had the opportunity to explore and document a whole range of cultural landscapes the way I saw them. I would like to do even more of that now.

These days, I primarily shoot with Leica cameras, both rangefinder and non-rangefinder, as well as film. Most of my older on display was probably taken with either a Sony A7R III or one of the many Micro-Four Thirds cameras I’ve owned over the years. If I had to pick a daily favourite, I think it would be the Leica Q3 43. Pretty much all of my M-mount lenses are Voigtländer ones — and I usually use them with my film Leica M6.

I’m currently working on getting a little shop set up so I can offer prints of my work for sale. For now, please reach out via the contact form below for all print orders and inquiries.

About this website

This website was entirely designed be me, as you can tell by the complete lack of colour and design elements. It features the typefaces IvyPresto Display for the headings, designed by Ivy Foundry, and Le Monde Libre Classic for the body text, designed by one of my absolute favourite foundries, Typofonderie. It was built with Astro and is hosted on Vercel.
