Jordan

In 2016 I had this deep desire to be uncomfortable. My traveling had been safe, predictable, shaded in city comforts. Jordan was always on the edge of my radar, but planning a trip to the desert was just something I didn't feel like I had in me. Day one was, of course, an absolute disaster. I wasn't able to cross Israel's border into Jordan for whatever political reason that day, and I ended up having to book a really strange hotel by the border, on the Israeli side. The next day, I finally made it to Jordan and went straight away to Wadi Rum. Hiking all day, camping with the Bedouins at night, occasionally hanging out with however many locals showed up to bake bread and make tea. One night I got lost and didn't make it back to camp on time, which to this day, sits high atop my list of this-is-scary moments. Never was I so happy to be blinded by the headlights of a jeep in the distance.
